Business in trouble

Burma has opened up to the general public, investments are coming in and more and more tourists are visiting. All sounds positive, but we found quite a few articles in the last few weeks that tell a different story and are showing the difficulties Burma has in developing in a strong and stable economy.

An article in the New York Times already revealed their worrying findings that money earned in drug trafficking is fueling most of the country’s economic growth.

The Vice-President for hotel-chain Hilton’s South-Eastern Asian operations has said it’s still difficult doing business in Burma. He commented that good people and electricity supply are the key issues that need to be addressed in order to grow a stable tourist industry. “The government and related ministries should focus on infrastructure and connectivity rather than expansion of destinations”.
