Preserving Shwedagon

A big step has been taken to protect the Shwedagon pagoda. Following public demonstrations against the project, the government has announced the luxury condominium building close to the Shwedagon pagoda will not be built. Critics had said the project could cause damage to Rangoon’s main landmark (which looks great with a full moon over it).

Five other projects were scrapped as well and after this success the “Save the Shwedagon Committee” has vowed to start a new committee to protect more pagodas across the country.
